Snow Goose Hunting with Longneck Outfitters Guide Service

2011 Spring Season - Snow Geese

Our spring snow goose hunts in Lubbock area start in late February and run through the 20th of March. We typically hunt near Squaw Creek National Wildlife refuge which hold high numbers of birds during spring migration. The refuge is a major staging area for migrating geese and can hold over a million birds during the peak of the migration. Missouri is the most consistent state for snow goose harvest, and usually leads the nation in overall bird harvest.

Hunts start 30 minutes before sunrise and end thirty minutes after sunset. At some point during the day we break for a quick bite to eat. It is recommended that you bring food to the field with you as some days the action will be so intense you will not want to leave the field.  Decoy spreads are second to none, most are custom made snow and blue windsocks. Most spreads consist of 1200 plus decoys, they will be put out before your arrival, so all you have to do is show up and be prepared to hunt. We also use top of the line e-callers with numerous tracks to fool wary birds. Most shots at birds will range from 20-50 yards, with some closer and some further, but always be prepared to shoot. We recommend using unplugged guns with tube extensions for maximum effectiveness. Shot size should be no smaller than #1 with BB’s and larger being the best choice. Most days will 15-30 birds harvested, but there are also a lot of days where 40-70 birds can be harvested and there are the days when the conditions are right where 100 birds or more can be harvested. This is not a every day occurrence but it can happen.

All you need to hunt in Missouri is a non-resident spring snow conservation license which cost $40.00. A federal stamp is not need during this extended season. If you were born after Jan. 1 1967 you will need to have proof of a hunter safety certificate, or purchase a Apprentice hunter Authorization permit that cost $10.00

We can hunt up to 8 people per spread, if you book a group of six you will not be mixed with another group.

Rates are as follows:

3 day hunt: $575 per person

Less than 3 days: $200 per day, $150 per half day.
